Farting Dogs???
I know many of you have dogs. Do they all fart constantly? Jer just yelled to me, "Did you hear that?" It was the biggest and loudest farting sound coming from Nero as he was sleeping. You're probably thinking, "What do you feed that dog?" We're just feeding him regular dog food yet he farts like there is no tomorrow! Nothing is worse than animal farts, except for maybe when my Uncle lets it rip but they are pretty much tied in that area.

Any tips, my wise friends????

Hmmm. what is your dog eating? Did you change food recently? My dog rarely farts, but she is on a strict food policy. Hope that helps! ;-)

Lisa: I found out yesterday that the military was feeding him Science Diet but the day before we got him Jeremy had bought a huge bag of IAMS for Seniors....that could be it I guess but can't switch him until the other food is gone. Having a dog costs quite a few bucks! :)

Yeah..switching food will typically give them gas. So will giving them any people food. It shouldn't last long. His system just needs to get used to the new food. If he is happy on Iams, you may just want to keep him on it. You can get Iams at Walmart..which saves a $.

It mostly has to do with the food he's eating. You aren't feeding him a lot of human food are you?

Is he getting treats that he didn't used to get?

He also may be eating too much too fast. Do you feed him all his daily food at once or half in the morning and half in the evening?

It's mostly a matter of adjustment for him. He's 9 years old so it won't be a fast adjustment.

You could check with people at PetsMart and I'm sure they could give you some advice.

Our little dogs do this once in a while... our Rottweiler does fart more that the three chi's, but not constantly.

    Good luck!

My dog Duff farts ALL THE TIME. He has the worst smelling gas ever! I have to leave the room every time he lets one rip. I hear there's some kind of pill you can feed them. I don't know what to do about Jazzi though, the other dog. She has a burping problem.

Do you give him rawhides? Those can give a dog gas. Also, you might try getting one of those dog bowls that is set up higher, for tall dogs. That will help with digestion, I've heard. IAMS is a good dog food, but if you decide to go back to Science Diet (which is also really good), be sure to give him half the old and half the new and ween him off the old food.
